Many times in life, we hear the phrase

People succeed because they work hard.

Those legendary entrepreneurs, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg all managed to become who they are today mainly because of working hard.

Is that really true?

There is no denying that hard work is a factor of success. However, many of us glorify it, making it seem to be the only factor.

Recently, a book has shed some light on the other factors besides hard work that play a part in the success of a startup and founders.

Winning The Business Book Of The Year Award in 2021, Ash Ali and Hasan Kubba have cowrote the book, The Unfair Advantage, in which they take a look into the often ignored but just as important factors.

They are, based on the acronym in the book, the MILES

  1. Money
  2. Intelligence and Insight
  3. Location and Luck
  4. Education
  5. Status

The article will only cover the factors that most people rarely expect in a Silicon Entrepreneur success story which are Money, Location and Luck, and Education.
